Awesome Smile: A Display Font That Elevates Your Editorial Design

Sitting at my desk, I was tasked with redesigning the header for a new lifestyle blog. The previous font felt too generic, lacking the warmth and personality that the brand needed. As I scrolled through a curated list of display fonts, one stood out immediately—Awesome Smile. Its bold, joyful curves and charming swashes made it feel like the perfect match for a publication that celebrates everyday beauty and creativity.

Awesome Smile is a thick, expressive display font that radiates positivity. Each letter feels handcrafted, with chubby outlines and playful flourishes that add a sense of movement and energy to any layout. It’s not just a font—it’s an emotional statement, designed to make readers pause, smile, and take notice.

Why Awesome Smile Works for Blog Headers and Magazine Covers

For the blog redesign, I used Awesome Smile as the primary font for the header. The result was instantly more inviting. The thick strokes gave the title a sense of stability, while the swashes added a touch of whimsy that aligned perfectly with the blog’s tone. It became the visual anchor of the entire site, drawing attention without overwhelming the reader.

In a similar way, this font would work beautifully on magazine covers or digital publications focused on wellness, travel, or personal growth. Imagine a feature titled “Finding Joy in Everyday Moments” rendered in Awesome Smile. The font doesn’t just convey the message—it amplifies it.

Using Awesome Smile in Recipe Ebooks and Coaching Workbooks

I also experimented with Awesome Smile in a recipe ebook I was designing for a wellness brand. For chapter titles like “Savor the Moment” or “Healing Through Food,” the font brought a sense of comfort and approachability. It worked well as a decorative accent, especially when paired with a clean sans serif font for the body text. This combination created a balance between playfulness and readability, ensuring that the content remained easy to digest.

In a coaching workbook, Awesome Smile could be used for section headers or motivational pull quotes. Its warm, friendly appearance makes it ideal for content that encourages self-reflection or positive change.

However, it’s important to note that Awesome Smile is best suited for short bursts of text rather than long-form reading. Its thick, stylized characters can become visually tiring over extended passages. For body copy, pairing it with a readable serif or sans serif font is essential to maintain clarity and visual hierarchy.

Font Pairing and Practical Considerations

When working with Awesome Smile, I found that pairing it with a traditional serif font like Garamond or a modern sans serif like Helvetica Neue created a balanced editorial look. The contrast between the two fonts helped guide the reader’s eye naturally from headlines to body text, reinforcing the structure of the page.

Before using Awesome Smile in any commercial project, it’s crucial to check the included styles, alternates, and ligatures. Understanding how the font behaves in different contexts—such as on mobile screens, in PDF exports, or when printed—can help avoid unexpected formatting issues. Also, verifying the font’s multilingual support and licensing terms ensures that it meets the requirements of your specific use case.

Whether you're designing a printable planner, a course PDF, or a newsletter graphic, Awesome Smile adds a unique character that stands out in a sea of generic typefaces. Its versatility allows it to blend seamlessly into various editorial formats while maintaining a distinct personality.

For those who value both aesthetics and functionality, Awesome Smile offers a compelling choice. It brings a sense of joy and confidence to any design, making it an excellent addition to any creative toolkit. Whether you're crafting a brand identity, building a digital magazine, or simply looking to elevate your next project, this font has the potential to transform the way your content is perceived and experienced.
